Azolla, Duckweed and Watermeal Control

Over the past five years Waterworks Industries Inc. seen a significant increase in clients that are looking to deal with infestations of Azolla, Duckweed, and Watermeal. These floating aquatic plants have caused our clients several issues including those outlined below:

  • Thick infestations of these plants that completely cover entire waterbodies or large coves can cause de-oxygenation of the water. This can affect fish and other organisms.
  • Dense infestations can inhibit recreation such as swimming , boating, and fishing.
  • Clog irrigation, circulation, and fountain pumps
  • Impedes water flow and can cause blockage at outlet gate structures.
  • Has led to drowning of livestock that don’t see the water
  • Complete loss of aesthetics

Waterworks Industries Inc. has several solutions to control and manage Azolla, Duckweed, and Watermeal which include the use of aquatic herbicides as well as mechanical and physical removal options for pond, lake, and reservoir owners that do not want to or cannot use herbicides.
